In 1907, Ibrahim Harmouch, a Lebanese man in his mid thirties decided
to use his already acquired experience in the trading of building materials
including blocks from quarries to establish a flooring tiles factory. For this
purpose he moved from Lebanon to Egypt in which he saw a potentially larger
market. Egypt was also a more challenging market as several other factories had
preceded him and to succeed he set himself a clear guideline and that was to
never compromise on quality.
40 years later, his son George Harmouch, a young engineering student,
joined the factory and quickly became the heart of the work. He stuck to his
father's guideline and also set his mind on continuously renewing both the
products and the machines used. In 1977, he acquired his first fully automated
tiles manufacturing line and was only the second local manufacturer to do so.
Hany George Harmouch, holder of a masters degree in mechanical engineering
joined the work in 1995, he added his science to the vast experience of his
father and to the already well trained employees and workers to form one of the
most qualified teams present in the field of building
materials.
Currently, the number of automated lines was increased to three
raising the daily productivity for a 7 hour shift to more than 1500 square
meters. A wide variety of products is available, there are indoor tiles, heavy
duty industrial tiles and outdoor tiles. High degree finish matching that of
marble is available as well as rough surface finish when non slippery surfaces
are required. There is also a wide variety of tile dimensions, colors and grain
sizes. Regular testing is done on the tiles inside the factory to insure that
the tiles are compliant with the Egyptian standards 269/1974, DIN 18500, BS
4131.
So many things have changed since our factory was first established
early in the last century: environment, people, technology and many more. But
we are proud that the one thing that we could hold on to is our founder's main
guideline: "To never compromise on
quality".
